Multi-cam Talk show

In this post i will be looking at the analysis of multi-cam of a studio based TV show for this post i will be mainly looking at the talk show known as the Graham Norton Show.

For this i will be looking at why this show uses multi-cam and how it is different from other multi cam projects.

Multi-cam is required in talk shows as with the show being based around popular up coming works of art such as movies and albums maybe even TV shows they have a chance to learn more about these new works by getting the chance to see them be interviewed by a famous talk show host so multi cam is required to follow along the conversation from person to person.

Below is a list of diagrams showing the layout of the cameras.

As you can see by the shot above the camera is focused on our host who is talking to one of the guest off screen the camera is shot this way is to show the host asking questions to the guest escalating the conversation further or rather initiating the conversation with then guest.
As you can see by this shot this is a wide shot of the hole set but the purpose of this shot is to illustrate to the audience is that the host is talking to the crowd at the live show telling them about something this lets the viewers at home see him getting involved with the fans but also helps the viewers at home get involved as well as it shows they are being spoken to as well. You also see the backdrop of the set with the many of the props and lights as well as the colour scheme it helps set a mood of being relaxed as all the colours are all very bright and warm colours which helps put a cross the impression of having a relaxing feel to it so it helps the audience be more laid back.
This shot shows all of the cast together this shot is to show the interaction between the guest this show them conversing with one another making them more comfterable with one another and the audience gets a feel of that as makes them a part of the conversation as they can listen to the people converse between each other. This is a group shot so all of the talent is present and this helps show the number of guests and there interactions.
In this shot you have two guest looking to there left at the host laughing this is to illustrate the way the conversation is being lead and who is receiving the information also with the emotion you can see on the face of the guests all the shots except the wide shot is purposely designed to show the emotion on the faces of all the guests this helps also bring the audience closet to the guests as they also get the sensation of emotion that they get from the guests.

This final shot shows the guest in a close up shot much like some of the previous shot it is to follow the pace of the conversation the guest and the host but with the close up this is to get more a view on the emotion or feelings that the guest will have on there face depending on how the conversation is lead this shot can help show the emotion on the guests face with it being so close up it helps show reaction to statements or questions being asked as well also with his line of sight you can see the way the guest is facing.

The way the show is edited together is to follow the pace of the conversation between host and guests also audience on occasion it is edited to follow the action as it goes on much like sport the focus is what is happening however unlike sport we need a max of six cameras in this studio due to it have such limited space with it being a studio and not  a pitch or stadium we only need to focus on a smaller area so a pitch would need a max of twenty four cameras to catch all the action as well as the audience and the atmosphere that is being created by the pitch not ideal for a pitch to how such minimal cameras neither does a studio need so many cameras either.
